Independence Day or Interdependence Day?
"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"  John 8:32
Most people know why we celebrate the Fourth of July.  We are all grateful for our founding father's faith in God and the great nation that we are privileged to belong to.  Our independence from Great Britain came with great cost, and we are fortunate to partake of the blessings of living in a country where worship can be practiced freely.  Much blood was spilt, many lives lost, and we must never take for granted the cost of the freedom we enjoy.  I pray that as you celebrate this weekend you will remember those who have gone before us, forsaking all for the cause of freedom.
Jesus, the Son of God, spoke the most profound words regarding freedom ever heard.  The gospel of John chapter 8 records our Lord's reminder that He has dominion over all of creation, and that through the finished work of the cross, we find remission of sin and redemption of  our soul.  By faith in Christ we find ultimate freedom.  Freedom from sin and selfishness, freedom from the appetites and desires of the body that left unchecked, will destroy us.  God did not create us to be independent, that is to have no need of Him.  Neither did He create us to be co-dependent, in that we would try to manipulate Him to bend to our will.  He created us to be interdependent, that is that we would enter into a relationship with Him that is reciprocal, give and take, loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and taking from Him all the blessings of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.  This is why He came to this earth, to show us who God is and how great is His love for us!  He died for you so that you could find eternal life, life without end.
Will today be Independence Day for you?   Will you receive Him as Lord and Savior today?  If you know Him, today and everyday is interdependence day.
I want to encourage you to share Him with someone, that they too can know freedom, true freedom, and lasting freedom!
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed"  John 8:36
Oh Lord, may we never take for granted the price You paid for our salvation.  Give us wisdom to draw near to you today.  Amen
