God's Voice
"And the Lord called Samuel, and he answered 'Here I am."
1 Samuel 3:4
Do you know what God's voice sounds like?  Ever thought about how many ways He speaks to us each day?  The Lord God was calling Samuel to a life of service and self sacrifice.  Samuel was the first born of Hannah, who pleaded with the Lord for a child.  Her promise to God was that she would give up the child as soon as he was weaned.  Samuel was dedicated to God from birth, but until he heard the Lord's voice and answered His call, he did not fully belong to God.  Moses heard God's call through a bush that burned and was not consumed, He called to Elijah in a still, small voice, He called Samuel in a voice he did not recognize, and He is calling out to us continually saying, "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?  For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge.  Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out My Spirit on you;  I will make my words known to you.
The sweetest voices I have ever heard are my children coming to me saying, "Daddy, daddy," or my wife calling my name.  There are human voices and sounds that bring great joy and pleasure, and of course we can all think of 'that song' that stirs us to tears.  The sounds of nature are magnificent in their own right, the sound of rushing waters, birds singing, trees swaying in the breeze, or just complete and absolute silence.  Samuel heard a voice that every person longs to hear, the voice of Him who created man, Who created heaven and earth, Who spoke into existence everything that is from nothing.  Why would this God speak to us?
"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live" (John 5:25)
Because He loves us and wants us to be with Him for eternity!
Prayer for today:  God grant me ears to hear and a heart to respond to your call today, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
