The Living Word
"For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."  Hebrews 4:12
We have all read literature that impacts our lives and touches our emotions. There is no end to works of literature written by men and women, and they can be a source of great encouragement and strength to us.  There is but one book written by God, the Holy Bible.  Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.  The Bible tells us that it is "breathed/inspired by God" (2 Timothy 3:16)  Here, in our passage from Hebrews, we see that God's Words are alive.  Have you ever read a portion of scripture that jumps off the page and cuts right to the heart ?  Have you ever heard a sermon or Bible teaching that seems as though it is directed right to you?  His Word is a living being, and when He speaks to us we understand the power of His voice through His written, inspired Word.
God's purpose for His Word is to show the unfathomable riches of conformity to Christ. If we are uncomfortable or uneasy when hearing or reading the Word of God, it is because God is examining us, searching our hearts, and judging our motives.  If we are prideful, the word of God will expose our pride and speak to us of humility.  If we battle with lust, God will bring a conviction of purity.  If  sinful speech through gossip, slander and profanity is a problem, God's Word will address the tongue.  Whatever the stronghold, Christ died on the cross to break the chains that sinful habits have bound us with.  It has been said "This Book will keep you from sin, and sin will keep you from this Book"
Oh, Beloved, read the Word of God!  Take time every morning to meditate in His presence.  There is no time more profitable or better spent than time spent with God.  Jesus said "The Words that I speak to you are Spirit, and they are life"  John 6:63b.  Come to Jesus and Live!  There is no better life than life in Christ, and it is a free gift.  Will you accept His free gift of life today?  Confess your sin to Him right now, forsake evil, place your faith in Him, and become born again. I don't know about you, but it comforts me to be reminded every day of God's promise.  As I come and bathe in His Word, I am cleansed, refreshed, and ready for all that He has for me today.  I pray you will allow the Word of God to "grab hold" of your heart today!
