Devotional_Thoughts

Good morning everyone!

I trust and hope that you had a wonderful weekend, and that your work week is starting well.   In our study last week we saw that the Angel of the Lord had asked Gideon to tear down the altar that his father had built to a false god.  Gideon obeyed God, knowing full well there could be serious consequence.  In the Canaanite religion, an attack on a god was often seen as an attack on the local government supporting that god.  Gideon was not only going against the people of his area, but forces much bigger, much more powerful.  Gideon chose obedience over what seemed right in his own understanding.  Does the Word of God take precedence in your life?  Do you believe that if He asks you to do something for Him that goes against the grain of society that He will honor that obedience and provide His divine blessing and protection?  Oh, beloved, I hope so.  He promises that in His Word.  You see Gods Word (the Bible) forbids idol worship.  When Gideon tore down and burned his father's altar to Baal, the townspeople wanted to kill him.  What about Gideon's father?  After all, it was his place of worship.  His father intercedes and stops the people saying, "If Baal is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been torn down".  Do you see how God, the one true God, blesses obedience!  In the scriptures we see that even the Israelites, who knew the command of Exodus 20; 4, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image",  wanted to kill Gideon.  Sometimes opposition to what God calls us to do will come from within!  Maybe a family member, maybe a fellow employee, maybe a friend, maybe a spouse.  Gideon chose obedience to the Word of God and was blessed for it.  What altar has God called you to tear down today?  Are you willing to do it, despite the cost?  Oh friend, I hope so.  God uses clean vessels and His cleansing is always going to be uncomfortable and even downright painful.  Hebrews 12; 11 says, "Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it".   The refiners fire burns hot but when we have come through it we will be pure and ready for the Masters work.  I pray that we obey His Word today, and experience His mighty power in our lives continually! Blessings...
