Devotional_Thoughts

Good day to you all, and God's richest blessings on you today!    Sherrie and I were at a leadership conference this weekend, and as good as that was, we are glad to be back.  I trust and hope you all had a great weekend!  We have been looking at the life of Gideon, who was being refined and tested by the Ancient of Days.   We saw that Gideon had seen God and lived, and after this miraculous encounter with the Lord, he is told "Peace be with you, you shall not die".   You see,  the Old Testament  scriptures say that  man cannot see God and live (Exodus 33;20)   Chapter 6 Vs 24 says that Gideon then built an altar to the Lord, and called it YHWH Shalom (The Lord-Is-Peace).  An altar in the bible is a place of worship and offering sacrifices, and the Hebrew word means "slaughter place".  This also is very significant, especially for Gideon, because this altar becomes the remembrance that here is the place he laid down his life for the Lord.  There are many other examples in the bible of men setting up an altar after having a life changing encounter with God.  What about you?   Is there a time in your life when you encountered God?  My time was on December 24th 1991 in a Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM.  That is a night that I will never forget.  That was the night that Jesus came and spoke to me in my mind and heart.  I went in to the midnight mass that night a man practicing religion, and came out a regenerated Christian, a man who had an encounter with Christ the living Savior!  That night is when I set up an altar to the Lord, not a stone on the ground to offer sacrifices, but the solid Rock on which my life is built today!  I have become a living sacrifice to my Lord, my life is in His hands, and He is my everything.    There is nothing greater we can offer God than everything we are, everything we have, and that is everything He wants from us!    Pay close attention to the name of Gideon's altar- The Lord-Is-Peace.   Peace is elusive in this fast paced, success driven society we live in.  The bible says peace comes from God.  Jesus said "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;  not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid".  (John 14;27)   Gideon's peace came from God, my peace comes from God and beloved, your peace comes from God.  He is the only source of true peace.  His peace comes through complete surrender to His will for your life.  Have you surrendered?   Oh friend, the Lord loves you sooo much, and His desire is to bless you, but you must surrender to Him,  there is no other way to experience the peace that transcends all understanding!  He is calling you today, do you hear His voice?             May you come to know His peace today, you will be in blessed company!!
