Volunteers Makes a House Into a Home

March 2009 - The forty plus some volunteers started out the day with a coach’s pep talk from Lou Manfredini, Ace’s “Helpful Hardware Man” and then it was renovation time. This one-day makeover was part of the “New Faces for Helpful Places” campaign that was awarded to The Salvation Army of Lee and Hendry Counties. The volunteers formed teams that tackled painting, floor sanding, installing cabinets, planting greenery and fitting new ceiling fans. The sea of red shirt volunteers flooded the property and it was busy hands and hearts all day long.

The house that received the makeover is one of the newest homes that The Army will use for much needed transitional beds for graduates of the Crossroads program. “This has been a blessing to The Army,” stated Major Art Penhale, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army. “We thank Ace and the volunteers for coming out and making this house into a home. This will surely make a difference in the lives of the men of our program,” stated Penhale.

The local Salvation Army was selected as one of 10 winning organizations from a pool of over 2,600 entries and is the only “New Faces” renovation to take place in Florida.
